ALP Sensor Placement and Other Questions for Tesla Model S

    Hi All,

As suggested, I would appreciate your recommendations for placing the Laser Sensors on this car. I would also appreciate a recommendation for a GPS sensor that's compatible and suitable for a potentially wet area.

    FRONT:

I have not seen an ALP installation on a Tesla, but Escort / Bel installations typically put the radar and GPS antennas behind the black bumper cover. Although this area is protected, it's not guaranteed dry. I understand from reading this forum that the GPS needs to be dry. The recommendation to place the GPS on the dash unfortunately doesn't work, as the windows are very well screened against EMF. So, is there a pin-compatible GPS antenna suitable for this location?

Where would you put the laser sensors? Most installations I have seen place them in one of the two grilles below the nose cone. I have only seen one instance where they were placed near the headlights by cutting in the nose cone, but they were very obvious. I do live in a state that prohibits laser jamming and that's not my intent, I also don't want to draw extra attention to myself.

If the grille locations are suitable, are two sensors sufficient?

    BACK:

This will probably be a second phase, and it appears straightforward. My intent would be to place the sensors just to the left and right of the license plate.

If I use BT, this promises to be an extremely simple install. The front trunk is dry, so the modules are protected and there's ample room for component placement.

    Thanks for your advice.

I tested a Black P85D several weeks ago. He had a Dual install in the extreme lower air intake vents(?) w/ the 2 Silver louvers on each side. The spacing between the 2 Sensors was to w-i-d-e at ~28". He did ok against some of the Lidar guns, but others tore him apart. Best performance is had if the distance is within an 18-22" spacing.

What general area (of the Country) do you drive in & do you know what LEOs use for Laser gun enforcement ?

    Thanks!

I live around Dallas / Ft. Worth and I haven't seen any laser inside the Metroplex. I do see it fairly often in the communities south and on the way to Houston and Austin, but I have no idea what system they use.

    You're welcome.
I do know around the DFW area & all of the Lone Star State so far, there are none of the really dangerous Lidar guns. A well done install of the AL-P will protect you just fine.
