I am Juyer and I am from Europe (European Union)
There we have highly retro-reflective plates, both front and back, LIDARs are very popular.
Almost all countries in European Union have law that both radar detectors and even laser jammer are illegal.

We have the same situation in most of U.S.A. as you do,BUT...only a few individual States ban RDs & "Parking Sensors."
Welcome to our excellent forum. We have several very knowledgeable members here who are in various EU countries, and I'm certain you will hear from them. We also have members from parts of both Canada and Australia who also must stealth their installs due to legal bans on CM's.

What I know there are very popular TruCam, TruSpeed and old Ultralyte 20-20... so the Laser Technology, Inc. from Colorado (USA) has very good marketing here...Quote:

On the other hand in not laser technology all MultaRadar (mobile and fixed speed radars) from JENOPTIK AG (Germany) are also popular.
I use V1 & yaV1 application. Waze is not popular, instead every country has his own popular social app, so the fixed speed radars are not problem, Valentine one & yaV1 can confirm that fixed speed radar is real and not empty housing.
I am quite advanced in the topic of K, Ka, X band, but the popularity of LIDARs force me to think how to protect myself from them.
My V1 should be a lidar detector instead of a ticket notifier...

I have black-matte coat on the front of my car, but the highly retro-reflective front plate is a challenge. I think about it.
Veil G5 is not available in Europe, but in fact it is not a solution for a white plate and the police user manual for ultralyte here has the sentence "shoot to the front plate"
Painting over plates is illegal. License plate cover is illegal. Sand paper which I have used on a fragment of my old, unused plate has solved the reflectivity problem, but it is too noticeable and it is not reversibly operation. I think about white matte coat now. If only I manage to cut the white matte sticker to fit it between the letters. We will see.

The front plate in Europe is even worse than the California plate, so If I have my plate even laser jammer cannot probably help.
So the front plate is my challenge now.
The reflectivity I test usually by a simple toy, red laser.
This is not the case. Jammers dont work by blocking any reflections from you vehicle.Quote:

That's why I'm thinking about how to make the front plate less reflective.
It has nothing to do with how a Jammer works. Your plate will be no issue and a Jammer does not effect the reflection going back to the gun. It expects that reflection to go to the gun.Quote:

Making the LP less reflective does help. "Tilting" the LP forward also helps a little causing some reflections to be directed to the road surface. Some 3M films do cause "diffusion" & scattering of the IR photons which also helps. I use both of these tactics on my LP !Quote:

3. I think about tilting the front plate up. Why? Every time a LEO shoots me, I was on the top of a hill and the LEO was in the valley.
Maybe with old guns.. Today's guns I dont see any difference with the color of the car. Sure protecting a car with no plate is easier because in general its harder to get a lock on it but we are not talking about trying to protect a car with passive countermeasures. When releasing and testing Jammers they are tested for the worse case scenario and that always includes a Front License plate. A jammer is not trying to deflect or stop the return signal from the gun like a passive counter measure. Its about timing and getting returns to the gun quicker then the expected pulse and confusing the gun.Quote:

Tough it is not necessary when using Alp which has plenty of power.
Any jammer should be able to jam the gun even if it's firing into a mirror. Period. Jamming is about timing, not about power. It should not matter if the original signal from the gun is reflected back at 100% power; the jammer should still work.Quote:

If the gun is getting a punchthrough, the jammer is:
1. Not properly installed
2. Not "seeing" the gun (heads are too far from where the signal is currently falling and you need more jammer heads to cover the car)
3. Not updated to jam the gun being fired
In this case, it would be to your advantage to reduce reflectivity, but only because the jammer is deficient. You're still going to get tagged at some point and you need to upgrade/reinstall your jammers.
