Got mine installed today. Took less than 10 minutes...Literally....
A couple of things to remember so that the process is smooth:
* Make sure to have the most recent Apple App update
* Make sure to have the most recent firmware update
I had updated my firmware Dec 6th, but another appears to have been released on the 7th. This kept the app from syncing with the Bluetooth.
Once I updated my firmware, works like a charm!!
A couple of things to consider about the phone integration, that I don't think have been emphasized, that are really making me love my decision to go with ALP over other brands:
* Phone integration = Stealth. Since you don't need the control pad anymore, there is nothing to see inside the car for prying eyes (thieves or LEO)
* Phone integration = Easy Install. With the ability to install everything in the engine compartment, this will help some installers that are not comfortable with running wires through the firewall.
* Phone integration = Faster Install. Even if you still install the CPU under the dash, not having to install the Control pad creates flexibility on where you want to install the CPU, as well as no planning or time taken to install the control pad.
I LOVE the easy access on the phone. I highly recommend installing the LED that comes with the original unit, as the lighting indicator is helpful to let you know that updates are taking place and that the unit is powered up.
I plan to purchase an external speaker that I can plug into the jack on my iPhone, so that I can hear the alerts over my radio. While my BMW allows me to connect via speaker outlet of my iPhone into the AUX of the factory radio, it reduces other flexibility/features such as the built in handsfree bluetooth or listening to Satellite radio.
I plan to run Waze in the foreground, and Escort Live and ALPConnect in the background. I think the right external speaker will make it all complete. Well, plus the Stir+ head in the near future :)
I highly recommend the Bluetooth integration for those with an iPhone already.
Great glad you got it working. I have been using it for a week for so now and I have already submitted several improvement requests to make the next release even better.
Just received blue tooth and radar modules. After installing I have a few issues. I already have my iphone blue toothed to my head unit which works perfectly, however once the bt module connects to the alp connect app I get initial sound output from the iPhone speaker before it tries to switch the audio to the bluetooth via the car speakers. Unfortunately it fails to output any sound despite having other apps on my iphone capable of running through the car speakers. The only way to get audio from alp connect via the iPhone is to delete the bt connect for phone calls. This kinda defeats the purpose. I am wondering is there plans to resolve this ? It should be possible and would make it so much better.
I have already mailed the alp guys to see if they can help resolve.
I dont want to list all my requested updates in case they cant implement all of them but AntiLaser monitors this forum and if you can think of things they can improve, post your own recommendations and they will be heard. We will also create own own alert sounds and will most likely put up a poll with different sounds and let the users decide the alternate alert sound which will be selectable in a future update.
Make sure you have all alerts enabled in Notifications.
Attachment 338
It could also be a limitation with your phone or carrier with not having 2 Bluetooth connections at the same time.
Thanks for the tip. I had already been into the notification settings and this did not help. I have an iPhone 4S and wonder if the iPhone 5 /s would help resolve that ? It must be possible though as I have a fixed camera system warning me via bluetooth from the phone over the car speakers
I have spoken with alp support team this morning and they are going to look into the issue of Connectivity. I'm sure this will be resolved shortly.
I would like to request the facility to reverse/invert the directional warnings where the 3 designated front heads have been used on the rear of the car for Poliscan protection, and the 2 designated rear heads have then been used on the front.
Thanks
Here is my wish list:
* JTK button on the "drive" screen
* In settings, switch to "park sensors only" in case of pull over
* When the badge/message pops up when in another program like Waze and you get tagged, have a JTK option
* Be able to view a snap shot your current settings (even if you can't change them yet, at least be able to view like the settings show on the PC)
* My LED is now on constantly. It does not blink, nor does it behave like it used to in ProMode. I would like for it to blink blue when defense is activated for confirmation, then go dark until tagged with laser
* Voice confirmation that the system check is complete or when system has switched to defense would be nice.
I uploaded my setup.alp file via USB, and the iPhone stated "data received", however, without the control panel, I can no longer create the statistics or setup.alp file from the unit, to double check settings. Right now I am not sure if the jammers are auto killing after 3 seconds or not. I assume so since that is what I uploaded.
My 2 cents for now
Have been trying to get ALPconnect working on my Pioneer App Radio, would be sweet if it was compatable :) but I know AL is busy :)
Got mine working. The app isn't friendly with any audio that streams to my car stereo via Bluetooth - Pandora, Podcasts, or Music.
.
I want this feature:drunk:

Yea Im surprised that wasnt a function from the start--able to use either or, whatever you wanted to use.
Im still waiting for the HI-FI unit, Not really keen on needing a phone, I just want to set it and forget with voice alerts! BRD can you give estimate on HI-FI module?
I know the hi-fi module is next on al's. List and should be completed first part of next year

Hooked my Bluetooth and R/G modules up today.
Just remember that you need to scan for the Bluetooth module from within the ALP app first, as the iPhone Blue tooth settings page doesn't show it as availableuntil you have scanned from the app and eneterd the PIN, so at first if you go straight to the Bluetooth control panel it could look like it's not working :)
Once its paired up with the phone, the green light comes on on the module.
All good on the iPhone 4S
New version of ALPConnect out ;
Quote:
What's New in Version 1.1.1
Added cancel button to connection, added auto recconection. Fixed female voices bug. Added sound routing options when connected to Bluetooth audio.
So very happy with the ALPconnect, and it is coming leaps and bounds.
Just I dont know how long I have before it resets back too LID mode
The other morning, I got double tapped in a very short range by two cars (was @ psl when I got hit the second time) The Redline picked up the second one.
Problems was, I dont know how long I have before it reset, any-chance of a countdown timer on the ALPconnect?
I have just tried the new version. Connectivity is improved, however if the app is not in focus in the foreground then no warning noise is output. I still cannot send the sound to my factory fitted head unit bluetooth either. I hope this gets fixed soon
New update will be available in 2-3 weeks, the mentioned background no-notification-sound issue has been addressed and will now play a complete alert - every alert - even in background.
Have you tried Audio output button (Force speaker) to resolve your car stereo issue?
Yes I have tried the iphone speaker option which has been added. This does work, but what I really need is the option to play the warnings etc over the car speakers via bluetooth connection so that any music playing gets interrupted so that you can hear the warning easily.
The head unit I have is a standard vw product and I know it supports this as I have another app called camera alert which allows me to select sound to fade when a warning is played.
I hope it is possible ? I am more than willing to be a beta tester for this if that helps ?
Yep that's 2 apps that do this functionality so I guess it's just a matter of time for the development team to add.
Idea has been forwarded, we will look into that. Thanks!
device setup should be added so that I can set a highway and city mode. I carry two flash drives and load a flash for each one. It would also be nice to lock out false readings with gps location.
Any word on when Android app will be released? Just got a new Nexus 5 and would like to do this right with the bluetooth module but with an app for Android. Not an iPhone guy.
New Updated ALP Connect has been submitted today and should be available in the Apple Store in a few days. Please note it will require a new firmware update to support some new features. Next Scheduled firmware update will be Tuesday January 28th. If apple releases the App before the 28th please hold off on upgrading until the firmware update is posted.
Hey Tom
What are some of the new features we have to look forward to in this release? Also if someone does run it prior to updateFW what will happen?
