I don't usually post much on here anymore, but I have found the results of the 9500CI+ALP to be pretty solid so far (much better than my Sti-R+ tenure)... and similar to what you experience.
My settings (IIRC - From memory here):
9500CI+ALP>
X-off, K-Band Segmented (forgot segments, lopped off upper/lower extremities), Ka-Band Segged 2,5,8.
TSR + RDR = OFF
V1 - 3.826
All bands - ON
Ka/Junk Guard > Off
X-band: No comparison as I've never run it on the 9500CI
K-band: Usually goes to the 9500CI by a few seconds (I have no filtering on... I let it false). The V1 will sometimes tie it, and then on occasion the V1 will marginally beat it. The 9500CI falses much more than the V1 on K-band (likely due to settings).
Ka-Band (35.5/34.7): Usually the V1 wins by a second or two. The 9500CI will sometimes tie it, and then on occasion the 9500CI will beat the V1 by a marginal amount. The V1 falses a ton more on Ka than the 9500CI does.
What really interests me on Ka-band (I think a huge advantage to running two top-tier detectors, especially one low-mount and one-high) is on rare occasion the V1 or the 9500CI will DEMOLISH the other. This generally looks like one detector getting a short "blip" that neither has business detecting... and it goes away. 10 seconds later, both units alerts simultaneously to what I would contend is your "regular" detection range for a C/O source.
---------------------------------------------
So, in essence, I see the 9500CI winning on K-band with more falses, and the V1 winning on Ka-band with more falses. [34.7 I see 75% of the time, 35.5 I see the other 25%]
Generally what I do, is whenever I get an alert from one detector, and not the other... I go from DEFCON 4 down to DEFCON 2. Then, if BOTH detectors start alerting, it's DEFCON 1.
I used to have a Sti-R+ with the ALP, and (by the end) it had almost certainly malfunctioned.
BRD stood behind his product and helped with replacement.
Regardless, in the short time it (the Sti-R+) was detecting, I would say the CI is generally a better detector [I would advise people to go that route -9500ci- if possible.]
