I have not had this error 3 times in the last week. It just repeats over and over. Error 5 control box defective please unplug power cord and it repeats it over and over. Turn the truck off and back on and it and it works fine again. Then later on it might or might not start doing it again. I installed it some time last summer. I bought the system from bestradardetector last year.
Send the CPU back for exchange under warranty. The self check is failing at some point and although it's clearing up from time to time eventually their will be a permanent failure. It's normal to get an error once and a while just like it's normal for a computer to need to be rebooted from time to time but if you had 3 failures in a week you need to send it in.

Before looking at an Escort Radar Detector you should really check out Uniden Detectors.. Uniden R1 & R3 are the best performing radar detectors for the money.
Check the power and ground connections to make sure they're solid as well. Errors can occur if the power isn't clean or voltage drops randomly due to a bad connection.
If that doesn't help, get the CPU exchanged.
