Did some testing a couple weeks ago

@lugnuts was in town for a car show a couple weeks ago, so while he was here he brought some lidar guns to test my car with. As he said, "the interesting thing was when I went to the tripod with the DETC, I could not get a reeding above ~400 or below ~300. Not sure if it was course related or car related. The other guns I shot at it were JTG/JFG."

Anyone else have any problems with the DragonEye Compact?

DragonEye guns are the most complicated guns on the market. Most issues are due to only having 2 heads and a 3rd head will usually close that gaps if those guns are a big concern in your area. The closer you get the more narrow the beam and the harder it will be to jam.

Definitely tougher guns to deal with, but it's worth double checking the orientation, leveling, and spacing of your heads. If you have pictures of the setup, we could give some thoughts. I suspect there can be some improvements from adjustments.

what struck me as odd was once I got the reading it would jam again at closer ranges. we did some additional testing with Veil vs film and even then I got the same PTs at 300-400 feet nothing above and nothing below so I was curious if it could have been related to the terrain.

Rezin8 we could always retest the next time I'm down that way if you ever get a 3rd head.

but for the most part you are good against most guns out there and at the short ranges we got PTs the LEOs should be visable.

not much he can change on his setup other then adding a third head, maybe when the new center head is released.

I would go back to that 300-400ft position and you will probably find a harsh elevation change or deep bump or dip that would have knocked your transmit out of sight of the gun. The vehicles suspension also can play a role depending on how quick the suspension can adapt to put the heads back in line which is why we stress how important it is to keep the heads as level as possible to make up for any elevation changes. If you are off just a small 3-4 degree's once you hit a bump or large dip it will only make the percentage that you are off that much worse. For drastic road conditions we are working on a special smaller center head with an added vertical diode to give you more return coverage for people that are plagued with these types of road conditions.

thats what we suspected, the road was mostly flat but it did have some bumps which is why I suspect that might be a factor. the other car with ALPs I tested the week before had no issues against the same guns but that was on a different road.
@rezin8 double check that you are level, I thought we did but check again to be sure.

Doesn't surprise me at all.
I've experienced it myself as a Shooter, & Radarrob "owned" me twice each run on a road course Nine_c1 used as his Radar test course in Eastern NY. There were 2 small hills- one @ ~600ft & a 2nd @ ~400ft...didn't matter whether I was on the small incline or coming down the decline, he's nail my arse every time.

I run a Front Triple AL-P at ideal spacings, but that didn't matter !
