    This is b/c you're not actually measuring distance, but rather the relative signal "strength" of the returned IR reflection from an object ahead.

    Case in point:
    My setting is the same as curmudgeon's. Sometimes the proximity warning beeps are the same as his or even 3-4 ft, but when the object is highly reflective it will give warning beeps at 8-10 ft.
    Thanks for posting this. I just replaced my LI's with ALP and have the parking setting at 1. Most times it would start alerting at about 8 inches but other times it would alert at 5-6 feet. I thought something was wrong with the unit or my settings. Thanks for clearing this up.

    Yea assuming my hardware is all good, the parking sensor is essentially useless. It's not even moderately consistent. It's not a huge deal, but if I wanted to demonstrate to a LEO that they're parking sensors, I seriously don't think I'd be able to convince them.
