2 Q's re: sharing a speaker, extending HiFi cable length

Greetings! I'd intro'd myself in the appropriate forum, but from my sig you'll see I was previously heavily into CM use. I've been out of the game since changing cars (and moving to VA!) but am ready to get back into it. I still have my STi-R Plus so am planning on installing that into the Jeep, then adding an AL Priority dual. Two quick questions I couldn't find a good answer on:

    1) Is it possible to use the STi's speaker for BOTH the ALP HiFi and the Bel? I assume electronically it can be done via some 1/8" plug wickering. Has anyone tried it or know whether or not this will work/is advisable?

    2) In the Jeep the fuse box is in the engine bay. There is a switched 12v line available inside the cabin but I'm thinking about maybe installing everything next to the fuse box then just running a cable for the control set into the cabin. Is it possible to extend the length of the cord with a coupler? It looks like the connectors are standard RJ11 plugs. I did the crimp and extension act with the LI's before so can handle some cutting and crimping/soldering if necessary. Maybe the easier question is how long is the stock cable?

Thanks! Sorry my second post is a question. I'll try to provide some assistance and a DIY as I do the install. There aren't many DIY's on late model Jeep GC's.

    1. No, They are different types of speakers. The Beltronics Speaker is an amplified speaker and the AL one is not. On the AL the amplifier is being into the controller.

    2. The CPU is not water and moisture proof and if you mounted the CPU under the dash you would surely kill it and if moisture gets in the CPU you would void your warranty. You are much better off mounting the unit under the dash and running the wires through the firewall. You can run the power line just as easily though the firewall as you would if you left the CPU under the dash and ran the controller wire through the firewall.

There are a few Jeep installs here if you do a search for Jeep.

Great, thank you for the info on the speaker. Good to know.

As to the under hood install, I was planning on using a waterproof box, a la the installs that use the BT module. But I was trying to go for reliability by extending the control head. I'm running out of grommet space so this method would eliminate adding in the sensor cables having to be pulled through as well. How long is the standard control head cable? Thanks again.

If you install the BT module you would not use the Control Module... You cant use both at the same time. You would also want to run the External Power LED light into the dash area but if you are breaking through the firewall at all it would make no sense not to just install the CPU under the dash and do it the right way.
