Before looking at an Escort Radar Detector you should really check out Uniden Detectors.. Uniden R1 & R3 are the best performing radar detectors for the money.

I purchased the Escort speaker. Only downside in my setup is my speaker location (driver side floor board) and it can still get drowned out if music is too loud and the top is down.
My car stereo has an alternate music source jack, that I am now just playing music from iPhone into stereo. Alerts take priority and are now VERY loud, because they play at volume level radio is set.
I am very happy with it set up this way.
One other option to consider, would be a bluetooth earpiece made for a phone. Bluetooth to the iPad, and the alerts would play in your ear. I've considered this option for long drives with kids in the car trying to sleep.![]()
