Short press on the power button turns the parking sensors on or off. This was always that way. You might have turned them off previously not realizing it and when off the light will illuminate with no sounds.

But previously, the light would flash (same as with the sounds on). Closer objects = faster flashing. However, this time it was a solid red light.

Correct but only when turned off. When back on it should act normally with the timed flashes and quicker sounds as you get closer.

Why was the flashing red changed to a solid red? With the old firmware, I could at least tell how far I was from an obstacle by looking at the light (even with the sound turned off). With the solid red light, I cannot do that.

Not sure and I dont really know when it changed. It most likely had to do with changes to make all the new stuff compatible with each other.
