Something strange has been happening lately with my alp / stir w Gps lately. Now when I turn my system on, I get fast blinking red and green lights after the system has warmed up. It seems like it's telling me "GPS error" because I think the gps functionality doesn't work, when this extra light sequence happens,...
Anyone know what the system is doing here?
That is normal operation with the standard control unit. I believe it indicates the number of satellites it has acquired. As with any GPS device the more sats the better but I find the ALP to be accurate enough for what it uses GPS for. Have you tried setting a lid speed and verifying that the control led switches to yellow when under the threshold and blue when above it?

Not yet. I run in led dark mode, so I need to change that to test it. I will do it and let you know. Thanks

Does GPS antenna orientation matter? Flat side up vs. down? Was thinking of mounting on the glass up high, behind the rear view mirror (flat side up).

^ I mounted mine at the bottom of the A-pilar, in the fuse box area where all my other hardwired stuff is. Since the antenna is magnetic, I just stuck it on a piece of metal there. It’s sitting vertically, with one layer of plastic covering it and it’s been working fine.
The manufacturers say to mount the antenna where it has a clear view of the sky. Whether that is actually required all the time I don't know, but I would guess they recommend that as a best location to sure it has a lock the most often.
I have searched this antenna on the web, and although the thought here is that the GPS antenna is not waterproof, all seller product descriptions I have reviewed says it is waterproof and can be placed outside and even used in Marine applications. I mounted mine on the inside on the dash, as I really do not want an ugly black wart on the outside.
