Yes NVR2FST I agree,
And to me a good part of avoiding danger is ensuring that no drivers will be in my vicinity texting and making the roads more dangerous and risking life & limb of others
I have a great driving record and fewer accidents than can be counted on one hand.
That in over 35 years of driving in the NYC & Washington Capitol Areas
I see no reason that some inattentive, self centered, twit should be allowed to endanger me & others around him/her.

Cuomo, by and large, annoys the living hell out of me, but I do agree about severely censoring texting drivers. Still not gonna vote for him though

how dangerous is a driver stopped at a red light who is texting? while driving yes bad idea but stopped at a red light. having a guy dress3d as a bumb to ticket you while stopped is pure revenue generation. and how do the determine someone making or answering a call or texting? not much different from hitting send then from hitting the radio or wipers distraction wise.

Well My feeling is, If im in traffic like as i stated earlier, I dont touch my phone.... I feel theres a time and place to text... If I am in a place where i have room to text i do and if im in stop and go or in areas llike say the Taconic state parkway My phone can ring and ring and ring i will NOT touch it...

The point I am making is that the roads would be much more safe without bozos (and bozas) not paying attention to their driving.
As far as I am concerned the deterrents need to be severe enough to put an end to the practice of texting as well as any other sort of hands on use of a phone/tablet while driving.

If you're (already) stopped, I don't have much of a problem with it (just be aware of when the light turns green).

LEO's shouldn't be doing the busy hands/distracted driving thing either. I followed a cruiser for about 3 miles one day that swerved all over the road and onto the shoulder every time he used the remote on his radar to switch from forward facing to rear facing antennas. Worse than your average drunk. I stayed about a quarter mile behind him. Could tell what he was doing by the ramp of my RD

too many of LEOs drive around playing on their computers. well if we cant do it neither should they, police need to lead by example.

The way I see it (in this particular case) is not that "Well LEO's do it we, should be able to too!" The part that really pisses me off is that LEOs are allowed to do it in the first place!

For some reason they are treated as if they are immune to the laws of physics. Then LEOs invariably say all that malarkey about "Oh, well LEOs are trained to do this, they have to pass driving classes..." So does this mean a racetrack driving instructor is allowed to speed with impunity?

As long as people actually operate their vehicle in a manner that is not objectively dangerous I don't care if they have a BAC of 2.0 or whatever. Same for carrying a gun or anything else. No harm - No blame.
Homosexual acts, some heterosexual acts, adultery, fornication, cohabitation, cross-dressing, pornography, blasphemy, obscenity, being open for business on Sunday - all used to be illegal. They are now legal. Somehow we survive. We can repeal most of the other laws as well. Believe me, civilization will not collapse.
