Interesting Waze and ALPConnect Issue

I just updated my smartphone to an LG V20. This phone runs Android Nougat 7.0 and Bluetooth 4.2 out of the box. My ALP system has the Gen 2 Bluetooth module running Bluetooth 4.0

Problem:

When running Waze 4.15.0.2 and ALPConnect 2.2A while simultaneously connected to a Porsche 2016 PCM system, the ALPConnect keeps randomly disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes. I did not have this problem running on a Blackberry PRIV with Android Lollipop 6.0.1 so I am guessing a backwards compatibility issue with my new phone.

Troubleshooting:

So I did some Google digging and found that in the past people had seen this problem when WiFi was enabled. The thought was that phones use the same antenna & frequency for WiFi and Bluetooth and when WiFi is searching for a signal, connects or disconnects when driving around, the Bluetooth gets dropped. OK... turned WiFi off but still had the issue driving around.

I then tried running Waze and ALPConnect in Android 7.0 multi-window mode with Waze on half the screen and ALPConnect in the other screen half. ALPConnect works perfectly fine in multi-window mode when I have other apps up but not with Waze. Both came up but ALPConnect speedometer would not function unless I closed Waze. WiFi on or off made no difference here either. So in multi-window mode, Waze kills the device GPS connection to ALPConnect too.

Next I shutdown Waze and the ALPConnect ran perfectly and no random disconnects. Turned Waze back on and sure enough random ALPConnect disconnects and reconnects start right back. It did not matter if ALPConnect was on top or if Waze was on top as the active screen, nor if WiFi was on or off, nor if phone-to-car Bluetooth was connected or not.



Bottom line for my set up, running Waze and ALPConnect simultaneously does not work; adios Waze more trouble than it is worth.
