Antenna Placement

I just purchased an ALP triple head system and I'm thinking of adding NetRadar, but I have a question regarding antenna placement. I've read that you should not place remote antennas behind grills, but it's OK to place them behind a flat plastic bumper. I posted a picture below of where I would think about mounting the antenna. Would this be OK? I'm also a little concerned about the performance again Ka band since that is what I'm most worried about and I'm waiting for more testing to come out before making my final decision.

On a side note, I will have to say I'm very impressed with ALP thus far. I don't even have my system yet, but I placed my order around 6:00 am EST and by 11:00 am I already had the tracking number for the shipping. That is crazy fast for any company other then Amazon!

Where do you do most of your driving...City streets/rural roads/Interstate highways ?
I tend to honor/respect PSL in Towns & Cities for the most part b/c of kids & stupid Driver's. My speeding "jones" is reserved for the Interstate & prefer a high left Sun Visor mount on Driver's side. This gives the RD the best view down the highway & minimizes the radar signal 'blocking' effect of vehicles ahead of me. Radar waves cannot pass thru metal, but can easily pass thru the glass of cars in Front of me. I can also get a radar "peek" around Big Rigs ahead of me by putting Driver side wheels on the White line to sniff the air for radar ahead & to also let the Truck Driver see me in his mirror so he knows to move the F*CK over if he's in the passing lane ! :)

Thanks for the advice! Do you actually put a remote detector sensor inside the car, or do you just use a regular windshield mounted detector?

Oh and response to your question, the whole reason for getting the ALP system and making sure my radar detection is up to par is because of highway driving. I'll be taking several trips from Tampa to Chicago and back within the next few months. I've already made this trip 3 times (roundtrip) within the past year so I have a decent idea on what to expect. From Tampa to the GA state line I have not experienced many cops. From Fl-GA state line to Atlanta I'm VERY careful. Cops everywhere, especially on bridges. Rarely ever go more then 9 over the limit here. Then after Atlanta I'm still careful in GA. After I get to Tenn. that's when I am able to cruise. Tenn and Kentucky seem to only use c/o radar Ka band on the areas I drive. Then Illinois is a mix between c/o Ka band and laser.

Exercise great caution when traveling in FL & GA, b/c both States use DragonEye Lidar guns which are a serious threat. I believe both States are "back Shooters" meaning targeting you after you have passed by their hideout location. Just b/c you have the best sys. installed, never consider yourself 100 % protected from getting caught if you drive above PSL. Law Enforcement Officers (LEO's) usually have years of experience & are very good at what they do.

Do you know the procedure to employ once you are targeted w/ Laser, & how to avoid attracting attention to yourself when the encounter initially occurs ?

Yup, JTG of course!! ;-) Just kiddin. Slow down to PSL and flip it off. Roughly 10 years ago I had a blinder M20 system installed in my 2001 Eclipse and learned how to use it well, of course all it had was an on/off switch, alert light and a loud buzzer/speaker. My ALP system should arrive today so I'm excited to get started on the install. Seems like my car is designed well for installing it so I hope to be able to do so without many issues. I'm trying to figure out, if I get the net radar, where to mount it. I wonder if there is some way to get it mounted behind the rear view mirror somehow. I really want to maximize the detection distance and putting it up high would probably be the best way to do so.

I prefer to keep RDs off the W/S for 2 reasons, to keep the Sun from shining on a black body b/c "heat" is the enemy of electronics & being seen on the W/S to thieves temps them to break a side window to steal it.
With a little ingenuity, there's always a way to figure out an attachment means to the Sun visor.

I have tested many detectors including the Net Radar and when on the windshield on a hot day with the windows closed the case heated up to 160 degrees which is incredibly hot. Performance at these temperatures is degraded until the units start to cool.

Quick question about whether window tint changes the effectiveness of the Radar antenna. I am thinking of the Ceramic window film that helps cut down inferred rays heating your car. Thanks
