My name is Lee and I'm currently living in the Tampa, FL area. Ever since I was driving I've always had a radar detector in my car (16 years now). About 8 years ago I got into the laser jammer market because the place where I used to live, Milwaukee, WI, was notoriously horrible for laser speed traps. I purchased the first blinder laser jammer system available (forgot the exact name, think it was M20?) and it saved my butt many many many times!! I sold the car with the jammers in it and then moved to Florida where I wasn't driving as much and had no need for any counter measures.
The reason I'm joining the forum is because I purchased a new car and need to make sure I'm protected from all types of speed enforcement. The car is a 2015 Dodge Charger Scat Pack with a 392 Hemi V8. This thing rockets from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and if I don't get a system installed soon I KNOW a ticket is coming. I currently am running an Escort Passport radar detector with Escort Live. It works OK for my area since most cops in my county use constant on Ka band, but I know FHP uses laser. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 2 head Anti-Laser Priority system with STI-R antenna for the radar detection. I'm trying to find more information regarding the system operating w and w/o the ALP app as well as how to wire it directly into my stereo (if possible).

Nice ride & Welcome to the Forum.
Florida FHP now uses one of the most dangerous Lidar guns for speed enforcement !
Such that you should prepare for encountering the DragonEye model, there are other MFG's models that are used by the Troopers, but this is the one to be most concerned about. To be the best protected, I would suggest you seriously consider a "Triple" (3 Transponders) for the Frontal area.
Do some reading here in the Threads & review some of the install pictures many members have posted to get a good overview of what you can do yourself. If you're a "do-it-yourself'er" contact member BestRadarDetectors for your needs.

Welcome. I live just 2 hours south of you....for that car you are going to need 3 heads....if you do run into the dragon 2 heads will not help u...
I have videos of the dragon in use in Lee County by the locals so don't assume that only FHP are running them...
I have seen a lot of pl2 and pl3 I think I ran into a few TTS as well.
1 other thing I want to mention....Watch for areal support!!!! I got tagged 2 weeks ago on the sky way bridge with vascar....
As far as the alp app? If you go that route it will alert on your phone via blue tooth, you have to link your phone to the blue tooth in the car and when u get an alert it will mute the radio and send the eat thru the speakers in the car....
If you have your radio on it will alert thru the speaker on the phone only...you have to have it linked and the radio set to the blue tooth setting on your radio...at least this is how it worked in my civics...
The other option is to get the hifi speaker..separate speaker that works independently off the alp system with just a clip, no extra wires needed plus it is very loud..
Both set up work well, it comes down to what works best for you. 1 you need the phone on and linked for the system to be active and the other you do not...
I hope I answered a few of the questions you had

Welcome to the forum. You NEED an ALP triple in front with that car and your local threats.

Thank you all for the welcome and suggestions!! I've been out of the laser jammer scene for a while and it seems like things have changed quite a bit. Would most of you agree that an ALP system is the way to go? I don't mind paying a decent amount up front in order to have piece of mind. I know I still shouldn't be speeding around without paying attention though. As for VASCAR, I know they use it on I-4, but I didn't know about the Skyway. That sucks. I don't recall seeing markings on the ground they could use as reference for it.

Vascar, yes I have looked over my video about 15 times and I have not been able to spot him...other people have looked as well and theres nothing...so i believe that they where using the traffic cameras to time me...
As far as lines? Oh yes there are lines mile marked 88 south bound lol
