I just purchased a Porsche 911 GT3 and I've been a lurker on this site for a little while. I'd like to add a laser defense system (AL Priority) as well as radar that's all integrated into one system. Here is what I plan on buying...

AL Priority 4 Sensors (2 front + 2 rear) $1250
AL RG Module + 9500ci $550 (mount in front bumper)
Hi Fi Speaker $100
AL Priority GPS $50
TOTAL $1950

Do you agree with my setup and do you recommend purchasing through alpriorityusa.com?

Thanks!

Brian

ALP USA is the place to get it. I would spend $50 more and get the 9500ci antenna.

Nice ride & deserving of the Install pkg you're considering getting for it. Don't miss the install pix's of members here who also have Teutonic sleds like your's. :friendly_wink:

Do you mind posting a set of links to your site for this information? I couldn't find the same products on your page that ALpriorityusa.com has. I used to be a Circuit City level 2 stereo installer back in the day and I plan on doing this install. Do you have a link to general instructions for a 997 Porsche, I think my only question will be routing wires through the firewall and getting ignition power from a good source (probably in the trunk). I live in the SF Bay Area in California and I assume laser is commonly used here, is that correct?

There are plenty of places up front to put the AL Priority sensors and the radar module. More than likely I'll put all three in the center mouth, with the laser blockers at the very outside edges.

For the rear if I put the two AL Priority sensors above the license, plate I should be well protected.

You might consider three sensors up front vs two. I have a 2014 991 TTS and just got done installing a three front/two rear sensor system. PM me if I can help you with anything specific. I am not sure how access thru the front and back to the cabin differs between the 991 and 997 models, but It was not too bad to get the wires run.

I have the same system as you posted, except I have a fifth sensor and the 9500CI antenna.

All the Sku's are not on the BRD website, BRD site is mostly for Radar Detectors and the ALP USA site is for everything ALP. Just use the ALPriorityUSA.com website and all parts are there.

Was there a sale on Porsches lately that I missed?

Good choices! I second the 5th head, it has the ability and why not use it to its full potential.

I sold my C6 Corvette recently and have always wanted a 997 GT3. Unfortunately the 997 GT3's have risen in value over the past few years but I luckily found a great deal. I live in San Francisco and there are cops all over the place where we typically go cruising and I need to man up and fully protect myself. Its not cheap going this route but its going to be a lot more expensive if I get busted for speeding.

After reading through some of the posts, getting hit with a laser in the rear is very uncommon. Additionally the 9500CI sensor is front mounted correct, so there isn't any side/rear protection.

I think it depends on your state but generally it seems like these guys don't take er in the rear much unless you're from OZ or Canada.

Yes 9500ci is forward facing. It will pick up rear but not very well. For rear detection only the V1 and Stinger ($5000 lol) have rear horns....UNLESS, you do a full StiR Plus/9500CI forward facing and on top of that integrate another rear head into the ALP for M3 horns front/rear.

911 doesn't have that big of a front area, there is no need for 3 heads up front, 2 heads will more than cover the entire area, I have 2 heads on the front of my X5M and it's perfectly fine

CHP is quite adept as Shooters & his ride is an eye magnet & I believe it would receive extra effort to acquire if the LEO's visual tracking indicates he's above PSL. Those 2 turn signals (below & on the side) indicators near the HLs make him vulnerable to off-axis shots sub 1,000ft targeting, especially if the Shooter fails at the Primary CM area first.

Not much effort to ensure proper or even over coverage if you are installing two fronts to start with in the first place, IMO. Also, three fronts is what was recommended here. An extra $250 is not going to kill anyone who can buy a GT3. Three fronts was also recommended by the Premier installer in my area, as well as RALETC members on this Forum. You have the ability to run three fronts, so why not?

Another reason I ran three front sensors was I did not want to have to remove my interior trim more than once, as in a 911 Turbo a messed up trim piece can be more than a sensor costs to replace.

At the very least, OP should run cables for a third front sensor in the initial install if he does not use three to start with.

Also, if going with a 3 sensor setup, if my car was an example, OP would place the outboard sensors under the radiator openings under each DRL, and center sensor and radar antenna in the center opening.
Here's what was recommended for my 911 in post #2 of this thread:

The front of a 911, like most Porsches, is hard to cover though -- it tapers back on the sides. That's why people recommend 3 heads.

I really like that the 9500CI is able to be effective, even mounted under the bumper cover. Once the ALP sensors are mounted on the bumper, its kind of pain taking the bumper cover off in the future as you'll need to leave some wire slack right? I agree with 911TurboS, my car is a CHP magnet and if I'm going to spend the time to install this system, might as well do three sensors up front. I'm still not sold on the rear sensors as I haven't heard any cases of people getting shot from the rear.

1) Question about getting ignition power. Do you have a good source on a Porsche 997 to take power from?

2) General operation of the system. I have spent some time in the configuration post but I'd like to clear up how I think the system works. I'll have the HiFi speaker for audible tones and the small receiver that has the 2 function buttons. Since I'll have the GPS antenna I can set it to where under 30 MPH the parking sensors are engaged (front or rear) which comes on as an audible tone. Then over 30mph the laser defense and radar systems are engaged. If my radar goes off an audible warning happens, if I were to get pulled over what's the easiest way to shut it off, because I don't want it making noise if the cop around my vehicle (does it automatically shut off radar detection under 30mph if I configure it?). To a similar point if the laser defense system blocks an officers shot, it gives me what 3 seconds to slow down before turning itself off right? Then if the cop were to chase me and shoot me, how would I kill the system? I know it can kill under 30mph if I set it up like that but what's an easy kill button?

Sorry if its' redundant, if so I can spend time reading the config posts.

Here is what my front setup will look like.

Power to the System:
When you have physical possession of the car, get the Owner's Manual out and locate the section on what your fuses serve. Find one that is switched on/off with the ignition. You should have a fuse panel on the left side of the driver footwell and the right side of the passenger footwell. Use an Add-a-Fuse for a switched fuse point in the 5 amp or less range. I tapped the power dimming rearview mirror fuse in the driver side fuse panel because it was easier to run power from the same side I had all the cables and CPU stuffed into.

Shutting it off:
Locate the control pad where you can reach easily and press the power button. Not a big deal really. A 1 second press turns the power off. You could always just turn the car off as well, which would kill power to the system. I have always turned my car off the couple times I have been pulled over in the past 20 years.

My control pad is located on the dash just right of my steering wheel. An easy reach to the power button without ever being seen.

It puts the LEO at ease you're not going to make a run for it during the encounter. In the past when pulled over I always killed the ignition...put the keys on the dash(nowadays the key FOB), both hands on the steering wheel & Driver window cracked but locked (I never give consent to a search when asked).
LEO's are crafty w/ questions, never incriminate yourself by volunteering to much info, but do be courteous & respectful...it's always possible to leave w/ a warning only.

Definitely no reason to make these guy's jobs harder than they are. I have gotten two speeding tickets in the last 15 years and deserved both of them, actually. Always have a loaded gun in the car and my conceal carry permit and ready to inform the LEO of both. Once I did a rolling stop at a 4 way stop sign intersections in a Corvette and got pulled over. LEO talked to me through my passenger window, and just said to take it easy. I realized right after he let me go that my Glock was sitting on the passenger seat just a foot or so from him and he never realized it was there. Gun is black, holster is black, and interior was black leather, so it all blended in.

I had the Escort Passport 9500ix in my C6 Corvette and I never received a ticket in the five years owning the car. It seemed to be very effective for KA band, which is the only radar that I've noticed LEO using besides laser in California. Every time I let it rip going onto the highway or in a very safe area, I always had such high anxiety of an officer busting me. Now that I moved from Newport Beach to San Francisco, I know there are many more officers on the scenic roads and not that I speed but going 70 in a 50 zone which isn't that crazy, would kill my insurance bill. Spending this kind of money on a radar/laser defense will feel great knowing I have the advantage but it doesn't give me the right to be reckless. When I do speed its not in a neighborhood and usually when the roads are open and I'm not endangering anybody else.
