Yes I'm newb but I have been reading and reading for a couple of days. I get most of it but have a few general questions about the interface. I'm curious about how well it works with the iphone and just using that instead of a speaker. And can you change the alarms so they don't scare the crap out of you? The one in Radar Roy's vid was horribly loud. I have a passport max2 and quite nice how subtle the alarm is. Also, I'd assume I need the bluetooth module for a phone? How do you test the unit once it's setup? Again, I see Roy has some sort of tester that comes with his units but not sure what's valid here. Along with that, where should I buy it??

This was me yesterday morning :( I cannot get anymore tickets and I just bought a 3.7 second car :)

Thanks for any help!!

Hello--- Not a good site to see. The ALP system integrated with the Iphone works flawlessly, all you need is the BT module that hooks up to the ALP CPU.
There are only 2 voice packs that come with the ALP and its either a Man or women and they are not that intrusive, there are sound clips around you can listen too. The best way to get tested is to have someone with a real Lidar gun to test your setup and there are plenty of individuals on this board that will help you out with that.
You can buy the ALP right here from BRD- bestradardetector.net Or just PM Tom (BRD) he will hook you up with all you need. You will need at least 2 heads front and rear for protection, what car will this be going on?

You've come to the right place; I've found this forum very helpful. Welcome!

And as you found out, any radar detector is pretty much useless against Laser attacks, you are correct in coming here and grabbing an ALP system, its the best by FAR in the Lidar war!! Put a picture up front and rear of your car and we will let you know the best place to install your ALP's too :)

Ok here's a front and rear view. I don't want to be a cheap ass (I am) but do you think I can get away with one rear detector?? Rear placement seems a bit harder but just above license plate on that lip is what I was thinking.

No, you NEED 2 on the rear as well to be fully protected, they have tested just one head on the rear and its just not safe or a good idea! Put the 2 rear ones under that lip farthest out you can get on each side of your license plate. I would think 2 front sensors in red location and you should be good to go. Im sure others will chime in as well later tonight!

No problem, just after you get it installed make sure you test it to make dang sure you are covered. If you PM BRD on here he will also give you placement ideas as well, plus get you set up with the ALP's

A lot of people will say have to have two on back but I have one and I'm find with it!
Radar Roy says it covers a good 18-19 inches to left of sensor and 18-19 inches to right of it which in my mind is most of back of my car.
I just came back from driving on 81N from PA to New York & I was hit in back and I got plenty of notice & time to slow down. Is two better I would say yes but one is FINE too!

Another exc. location is in the upper grill & bottom Horiz. slot...right below the chrome strip. Your Front LP (License Plate) is #1 Primary target & secondary targets are either HL.

I can guarantee you if hit with specific guns even if they aim directly at your single sensor they will get through. It's not really a recommendation it's more a requirement if you want full gun support.

Guess down the road I will have to add a 2nd sensor to my rear. Thanks!

Thanks guys! I just ordered the whole enchilada! Thanks god my wife has no idea what goes on that particular credit card!

Anyone have links to good install video's??? Or would you recommend to have it installed at custom stereo shop??

There are install Threads here, not sure if you are able to view them yet. If you're in the Northeast area of country member Radarrob does installs. Some professional shops are clueless on proper installs.

The first time mine went off was as much of a surprise to me as it was to the guy on the trigger. After I slowed down and reset the unit, he just kept shooting different parts of the car with a puzzled look on his face.

Make sure the sensors are level with the road and make sure they point straight ahead down the road and not pointed in or out

Failure to do so nullifies performance & guarantees you'll be getting many speeding citations. Post #18 above may be a wise option for you to take so the Wife doesn't see & start asking questions about what/where those "things" came from. :dread:

I finished the install of the front sensors and have found out how to get thru firewall last night. So I'm super excited to work on this all day and hopefully get it up and running.

Ugh... what a long day running wires. But it's done and alive. I am confused about the Bluetooth box. I'm sure I could read more but have to ask. Does it plug in between control module and C or just in place of control?

Here's few pics. Long day for me. I haven't work this hard to run wires since Led Zeppelin existed :) And that little yellow flourescent level tortured me all day.

4123

4124

This is showing all the wires going thru the firewall. There was a plastic tray running the entire length of the floor pan so I ran wires there instead of thru car.

4125

Just a ton of wires too but they all got tucked away.

You connect either the controller or BT module to the C port.

Where did you go through the firewall in your R?

dinkydi
05-16-2015, 11:44 PM
looks like around the brake servo ,if the vw was similar to the audi, if u went to the fuse block /ecu, u could unclip the ecu and that gave a large opening to see inside of the car, once removed, either left or right side of f/wall under the bonnet

That's the route mine takes dd but damn the noise sneaking in.
Oh wells will be sorted out soon.

dinkydi
05-17-2015, 01:01 AM
if they took that route no need to disturb any thing else, for fronts heads or rd ant, so where did they come in with rears, thats usualy direct inside for rears, so i cant see what they disturbed ecu and every thing just go bak as normal, and a but of sealer where the new wires passed through, i had no extra noise, but some thing must be different with yours, mine was different to the pik above
https://youtu.be/AUZ2KEEoDBg i took the top off that he didnt the ecu is under that big cover just unclip euc

I asked how to on vw vortex and thank god I got an answer that was so much easier than that video. All I had to do was remove my battery and its a blank grommet below and behind there. This is for US spec cars.

Also meant to mention that I routed the back wires under the car. There's a plastic tray that runs the entire length of the floor pan and acts as a good conduit. This is where they drop out at the front.

That will give you nothing but a false sense of security, find a local member with a Lidar gun to test with!

Well I ordered that radar Roy gun for $40. Figured that's better than nada. Not sure how to find somebody local. I do have friend that's an Austin PD but he has a desk job.

NO NO NO---never mix LEO and countermeasures at all, even if he is a friend--not good for any of us at all. You need to find a Forum member to conduct test and check out your system, that tester you got does nothing but tell you it picks up the gun, really does nothing in a sense.

Some of the members of the forums own lidar.

They can help test your setup. (:

Well at least I know this thing actually detects laser, not sure yet if it defends it. I'm still looking for a lidar gun. I could rent one but they are pricey.

This was apparently a marksman compact. I wasn't speeding since I could already see him at the top of the hill and you can hear my escort going off at the end (Lame ass detector for laser) :friendly_wink: I also didn't JTK so well. I thought I understood that you tap the screen and she'll shutup and it'll turn yellow. That didn't happen and I kept tapping my phone. I'm thinking a kill switch is better for me.

You could get an old lidar to test for holes in your setup.

This one would do the trick.
