View Full Version : Does anyone actually use STI-R radar sensitivity settings

I was looking at my ALP integration setup earlier today wondering if anyone actually uses city mode vs hwy? Or for that matter has bothered to tinker with the sensitivity settings..

There is no X-band in my area so that's obviously turned off, I don't get any KA falses but I do get a lot of K falses and it has been on my mind to tinker a little with these settings to see how much different it will actually make to detecting a mobile Gatso camera.

I've played with them pretty extensively, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of true K band in my area. I have seen one actual K band in the last 6-8 months. It was a local from another jurisdiction so couldn't even write a ticket. He just left the radar on. Regardless it's pretty effective, but still can get tons of falses. I eventually turned K band off altogether on my STiR. It runs Ka only now but only as a back up to my V1 which beats it everytime since it's swept.

I've only ever cared to run it in Highway, but I also have X-Band off and K-Band segmented.

So mine is always in Highway, covering 1/2 of K-Band, and only 2/5/8 for Ka. I use an old unit (S7/.826) to catch everything else.

On my stir/alp I segmented k band. I run 24.100-24.200 and have TSR on. It has cut down significantly on the number of false alerts. If I didn't run my redline or V1 along with it, I don't trust my stir pluses any more. I have two one integrated, one not. Both of my antennas had to go in for service. One had a check receiver wiring alert and stopped alerting to k and ka. The other one no warning , but I only got a couple of hundred feet alerts without any obstructions. Since getting both of them back from Escort, the Redline and V1 has beaten the stir pluses on every alert.

My wife is getting me one for Christmas. I plan to segment K. On my commute it's 90% KA and the K guns are rare. I can usually tell exactly which car it is by the K frequency.

What a bugger.. I've heard a few people say now they are getting better results from v1s and redlines I had really expected the stir to do much better than either.
The reliability factor YC mentions too is concerning but I really don't want to go to the extent of buying a stinger..

I have strongly considered the radar add-on but haven't yet, I don't really need it but........ well you know!

I guess I missed the fact that K band could be segmented, so I went and looked at the Sticky http://radarandlaserforum.com/showthread.php/3455-AL-Priority-Radar-Package-%28ALP-RG-Module-Beltronics-Sti-R-Plus%29/page4, post 39 by dinkydi....

K1 K2 K3 K4 K5 K6 Wide
Option Frequency range Option Frequency range
K1 23.950 - 24.000 K4 24.100 - 24.150
K2 24.000 - 24.050 K5 24.150 – 24.200
K3 24.050 - 24.100 K6 24.200 – 24.250

I unfortunately do not see a whole lot of benefit to these settings here in the USA; as I see 24.090 - 24.220 legit K band. It would be nice if we could be more precise on segments.

I see falses from GM's around 24.065-24.080 and up around 24.245 - 24.268. The current segments cut off a little to high to help with any of these for me.

I too would like to know others experiences.

Could always speak to Paul about getting the budget version, stinger card and then having it use the HD antenna?

Otherwise if you want, the ddm horn does wonders :).

Even that on his site is over 2k for that amount of money I might as well get the vip and lab to go with it.
For me the ddm idea is a non event it's just too big and obvious though I am sure it does work well.

I've played with it whilst sitting in a car park near some k band door openers, and the default 'city red' setting stopped the alerts at about 10 - 15m away.
