Let's see... I am living in Kingston, NY for the last few months but am moving to California in less than a week for a month or two. Before that I was living in NYC for the last year and a half. I am originally from Alberta and hope to go back for a while sometime early next year.

My first rd was a Passport 8500 back in about 2004. I used it for about three years and eventually sold it because I didn't use it much and wanted to get a non-windshield unit.

Fast forward to last month when smartradar was $180. I am pretty sure that is 3x less than what I paid for the passport 8500 in 2004. Two weeks ago I also installed two ALP heads on the front of my vehicle and just ordered two for the rear this morning.

I have yet to be hit with laser and plan to attend the Atlanta meet this weekend.

Welcome to the most knowledgable radar detector forum. Seems that you have chosen some nice equipment. There aren't many users on the forums that have The escort Smart Radar, but it is a good performing unit. Please share with us your experiences with it.

Hello hussein & Welcome back again. We havn't heard much from you since your install ~2 weeks ago.How is the VHB tape holding up?That is one looong trip you are about to take.I must caution you very strongly to turn your SmartRadar "OFF" when driving thru the State of Virgina.Radar Detectors are banned in that State & the Police have equipment (RDDs) that can "hear" your RD if it is turned "ON".So keep if OFF & drive the speed limit so you don't get stopped.
Are you familiar what "JTK" means when using AntiLaser parking sensors ?

Will you be running "Live" with the SR? Between that and/or Waze you should be well covered, and the ALP's Rock!

Welcome!

Thank you for the very warm welcome!!

The SmartRadar is exactly what I was looking for. After I decided it was time to get some counter measures and stop thinking about it, I came close to picking up the Whistler Pro 3600. All that time I was looking I never saw a product page for the SmartRadar, since it had been discontinued. One day I stumbled on a thread about a massive sale. I was a few days late to the party but the company was kind enough to sell me a SmartRadar at the discounted price.

So far the VHB is working as expected. I still have to square them with the road. I will do this after I install the rear heads.

Thanks for the heads up regarding Virgina. That is definitely the plan along with JTK in states where defense mode is on.

I plan to run Live while I am on the highway for the next year, and I use Waze for navigation. I will also order some Veil when the new version comes out.

I should also mention, when I was driving to Pennsylvania last Friday, I saw some speed signs in a construction zone that were using Ka band. I believe the road was I-84. This surprised me but I have read about this happening before.

Yes I saw some Ka signs in Pennsylvania too this summer but they were on direction signs not the kind that give your speed (those were K). I wondered why they had radar on them. There were also Ka speed signs in Ohio by Cleveland. We went to Atlantic City, was a nice trip.

Welcome.

The SR has always been one of my favorite detectors from Escort. Waze is a must, IMO.

Thanks for considering G5. Have you signed up for Roy's live webinar on the 12th at 8pm EST? We'll be discussing all of the capabilities of it then.

Yes, I did! I will probably be on the road somewhere, likely in the mountime time zone, but I plan to tune in.

Thank you, Veil Guy, for all your videos. I have watched hours of them!!

Hey hussein,
You should look into a RD that shows the frequencies of the Ka band alerts. It will help you identify leo from false alarms.

Hmm well the smart radar display allows me to either show the frequency or the strength, and escort live allows me to see both but I usually keep my screen on waze. I may try using split screen?

So I am standing outside installing my rear sensors and the extension cord isn't long enough for my hatchback. I am going to have to call ALP uin the morning and see if I can get some extensions for the extensions. I may need to leave a day early to pick them up! Lol!
