Great idea. It'll be great to have some additional activity. The one thing thing I miss since voluntarily leaving the other large forum is the number of new threads.

Because Canada has a different AL distributor, and being respectful to Tom and that distributor we can't ship to Canada.

No you don't, more than half of those threads were jibberish unless you want to get off topic a lot like:
You watch the Jets game last night?
What do you think of Ebola?
Which radar detector should I get? (those got old quick).

I guess they would need international versions to ship overseas because the threats are different. Also some of these devices are illegal in a few countries I don't know if they confiscate stuff like that or could face big fines if caught.

Tom , do you mean if the winner lives in a jammer banned state , he cannot recieve the Alp prize ?
'' As of 9/1/11, it is illegal in Texas to "use, attempt to use, install, operate, or attempt to operate" a laser diffuser/shifter/jammer.''
The rule 5 could be amended this way : any participants in this forum is eligible if he can
provide a Us adress ...violation disappears and every one @ the international is happy .
We can argue till end of times , this is not my point , i believe that forum contest should always
include all the participants ...think about the reverse ...you would feel the same.
Rules are just rules ...otherwise everyone here would follow the Psl and dont even
come on cms forum to share knowledge and friendship.
I am not sour , i express my opinion in the great general interest of this forum ...
perhaps next time the admins will take note and adjust.

There is a difference between shipping something within the US, and shipping something outside of the US: Namely - US Customs and Boarder Officials. Then, whatever officials the designated country has for international shipping.
Just 49 more posts to go! Haha.

I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that the real issue is agreements with foreign distributors and Antilaser (& Escort). If KMPH (Canada) and the Australian distributors would participate here as members and contest sponsors, I'd bet that it would remove the obstacles BRD faces. It's not only a matter of legalities, important as they are. I've always found BRD to be a man of his word in all his business dealings, and would never want him to be anything else.

Nice giveaway and prizes!
Are exchanges permitted (equal or lesser value), say if I won the Redline, and I have one already, could it be exchanged for a Max or something else of similar value, or pay the difference for a higher value item? Murphy's law, if I win at all, it's usually the item I don't need/already have.

Great idea to boost forum participation.
Admittedly I've dialed back my own posting, (mostly becsuse I realized that I was letting myself get sucked into non CM conversations, mainly on other forums) but this forum does need to stay active to remain relevant, so I'll try to post more often (on CM or car/bike related topics) and do my part.
Again, great idea, hope it has the desired effect. Also hope we don't see a slew of 'new members' from other forums that will only be here long enough to try and win the ALP.

Gotta be careful with that though as it can inhibit growth. If that rule is put in play, I'd recommend amending the entry rules to let new members know that they will be eligible for the next annual contest.
And of course by doing a giveaway in Dec. the tax deduction is realized fairly soon.
Not saying that you have to do a contest every year, just a thought to help any ineligible new members feel better about it.

Any of the winners may choose to have a Cobra SSR 80 substitiuted for their awarded prize. Non-United States residents will be awarded a Cobra SSR 80 in place of the listed prizes.

If I can go on one of my usual asides:
(Please note, this is not directed at any members personally)
I love (from a psychological standpoint), how this has played out: Baseline facts for situation:
- The forum already gives us all a free platform to discuss our hobby (though the forum isn't free to run).
-The forum thinks it would be nice to give away more for free.
- Because not all individuals are eligible (but are not in any way harmed) they take exception to it.
Very interesting neurological phenomenon, specifically regarding envy and risk taking (or lack of risk... which there have been numerous studies on this in MBA academics).
I, for one, would be happy for anyone who gets this. Heck, I may not even make it to my 50 posts, and be ineligible myself (I'll see how much time, and worthwhile input I have).
Regardless, I view us in this hobby as a close-knit community. Knowing that someone else in the hobby gets something (that has no negative effect on me) is something that I would embrace, not express displeasure over not being eligible?
Do I want the ALP Dual? YOU BETCHA! Redline? Absolutely! New Escort: Why the heck not!?! Will I be any less happy, in any capacity, if another member (members) of this community get these? Nope.
I just hope they post some videos or an un-boxing for us!

I don't think dinkydi was interested in the prizes as much as being excluded. I say this from a non - American perspective because as a general rule we (U.S.) are included in everything and other countries routinely miss out on things (talking generally, not specific to the forum). We don't see it because we rarely get excluded from anything and tend to take things for granted (like something as simple as being able to buy a V1)
I still think it's a great idea to get the conversation sped up a little and also shows a sense of giving back to the community (which is already done with all that RALETEC does).
Three members will have a xmas bonus, which is cool, congrats to them in advance!

I am not one who likes to edit or delete members posts unless they contain information that is not appropriate for public areas, contain misinformation or treat another member of this forum without respect.
I would like all members of the forum to move forward and not keep harping on the difference of opinions expressed earlier and yesterday. I feel all of the parties involved have a better understanding of the issues and accept that we are doing the best we can. The exclusion of non-US residents was a legal and contractional issue, not one of lack of respect, appreciation or exclusion. I and the forum staff apologize to all who felt slighted. I consider the issue to be resolved. I thank Dinkydi and T-man for voicing their opinions and concerns. The forum staff highly values your participation, knowledge and the members who you represented in your posts. I don't want them or any member of this forum to hold back their opinions or feeling about any topic.
There will never be a party line that all members of the forum must adhere to. Respective disagreement and discussion are always welcome
This thread will remain open for discussion about the promotion and only about the promotion. Good luck to all of our members!

oddpedestrian only has a 17.1% chance of winning in each drawing (assuming entries aren't removed if they win something). He still has a > 50% chance of winning nothing in all 3 drawings in that case.
Will winners be disqualified from winning any other rounds if they win something in at least one round? Or is it possible, in theory, for someone with >= 3 entries to win all 3 prizes?

Yes, If you win the ALP, You are no longer in the running for the 2nd or 3rd items.

Yes, If you win the ALP, You are no longer in the running for the 2nd or 3rd items.
So oddpedestrian's best odds of winning (but unluckiest scenario of winning nothing) occur if lugnuts wins the ALP, curmudgeon wins the Redline, and FJR1300 wins the Passport.
The chance he DOES NOT win the ALP would be (198-34)/198=82.82%
The chance he DOES NOT win the Redline is then (198-24-34)/(198-24)=80.46%
The chance he DOES NOT win the Passport is (198-24-22-34)/(198-24-22)=77.63%
The chance that oddpedestrian wins nothing at all is then the product of all 3 of these: 51.74%
oddpedestrian's chances of winning nothing are therefore NO LESS THAN than 51.74%.
If dragons, GotWake, and coolest35 are the winners instead, oddpedestrian's chances of winning nothing increase to 56.64%. So there is stil a 51.74-56.64% chance that oddpedestrian walks away from this contest with nothing at all (depending on who wins the first two prizes).
oddpedestrian: you've still got to like those odds. You have at > 43% chance of getting something out of this if it were held today.

Looks like since our last promotion last year there are new choices for picking results:
Pseudorandom numbers
According their name - those numbers are not fully random. They are the result of a specific computer algorithm. It is easier to generate pseudorandom numbers than true random numbers so you can find them in many desktop or server applications by using the RAND() function: in spreadsheets, C++, PHP, ASP and other programming languages.
RandomPicker.com offers the GUID pseudorandom method - Globally Unique Identifier. GUID generates very long numbers so the probability of the same number in the set is extremely low (2128. Here is an example of one number presented in a hexadecimal format: 35AF1252-4BFE-29629-B8FA-20911A21490C. If you are interested in details, visit this article on Wikipedia.
GUID method is definitely sufficient to draw winners.
Genuine random numbers
There are several ways to generate real random numbers - radioactive decay, thermal noise, shot noise, clock drift, avalanche noise, radio noise and other. There are also several ways how to test the randomness (Autocorrelation test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Diehard tests etc.).
For those who want to use true random numbers to draw winner, RandomPicker provides the following options:
Thermal noise: random number generator is based on a physical process. The hardware generator supplies an absolutely constant voltage and measures the small variations in the resistor's heat output. This entropy is converted into random numbers.
Thermal & buzzing noise: the random base is the same - thermal noise (see previous text). We took sound from a beehive and encoded it into computer bytes, then blended with thermal noise - the result is not honey, but another set of random numbers.

Use the $499.95 credit towards an ALP if you already have a Redline and pay the difference. We can swap the Redline for an ALP Single Head and just buy an additional head when you get the additional funds.

It's an art.... keep track of her purchases and let them add up a bit.... when you pull the trigger on something you want she has no grounds to object.... patience is truly a virtue in a marriage.... after 26 years I can usually get what I want.... patience is the key.... just don't let on to this strategy and you'll be good. If she finds out you'll drive a Yugo with crank down windows.... haha

Rigged!!!!! :D congratulations guys.
'' It's an art ''
the art of stealth ...i grinned though it is not too bad , in fact i encourage her to buy
whatever she likes , i am accumulating my points .
We are a strange couple , each has his money , she adores clothing and she uses what she buys.
I like cms and use them fully , it is just that sometimes she keeps cracking at all the stange\new
sounds in the car , all the wires that creep , which i have to find inventive ways to make them
invisible.
I am already laughing when i get the Hifi :hopelessness:
