View Full Version : What is up with the "load existing setup file" feature on alpupdate.com?

I realized that I am not only able to upload legitimate setup files, but I am also able to upload statistics files as well. Is this a bug or a feature?

Arguments in favor of it being a bug:

It's misleading. Someone might decide to "check" a statistics file for its settings, and try to use that file to reconfigure the ALP
There is no warning/notice that the file that's been uploaded is just a statistics file and not a settings file

Arguments in favor of feature:

If someone were to lose their setup.alp files, this would be a convenient way to regenerate a new setup.alp file: pull statistics, load file, regenerate setup file via website
The site seems to reject most other files (tried ALP firmware file, JPEG image, etc) with message "Uploaded file is not valid"

You statistics file is a setup file that stores all your settings and your statistics along with your settings. You can keep the file on your thumb drive and it will also reload your settings after firmware updates so you do not need to keep making new setup files unless you decide to change settings.

Interesting. So THAT's why the statistics files are named "SETUP.ALP"?

Correct.. Pulling the statistics writes all your settings and statistics to one file. This way if you are having an issue with your ALP you can email us the statistics file and we can see all your current settings. You can also reload your settings using the same file so many users just keep the one setup file on the drive that they use to update the system and they never have to create a new settings file unless they want to change something.
