View Full Version : ALP BT Audio Fix to override any vehicle sound system source selection just like Waze

Alright found a fix for a feature I just requested lol. So the reason you cannot hear alerts from the ALP Connect app while listening to another source is because ALP is using an A2DP audio connection for the apps alerts. Waze is able to override the vehicles source ( XM radio, FM radio, CDs ) due to the fact it uses Hands-Free Profile instead. Which works just as if you were receiving a phone call via BT while listening to the Radio.

This little app called A2DP Blocker (https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/a2dpblocker-bluetooth-stereo/id448525106?mt=8) will block the A2DP Bluetooth Stereo Profile.

I have just tested this while tuned to FM radio and to XM radio. The alert from ALP connect will override the vehicles source and play the alert!!

Keep in mind, if you wish to switch back to BT audio you will need to disable the A2DP app to allow the phones music to play.

I will have to test this later today or tomorrow to see if it works with my car as well. I mostly listen to XM on the radio so it will be interesting to find out. I will also check with AntiLaser to see if they can add it as an slider selection in a future release.

Another note I should add. If you have another source selected and enable the A2DP Blocker app it will still be on the selected source but play your phones music. Simply hit the pause button, make sure the default audio is set to headset+ and you are ready to rock!

EDIT: While playing around I found a few things out, to use it properly disable the A2DP blocker in the app, then enable it (it will ask you to playback queue, press close). Make sure the default audio is set to handset+ and it will work. There is a downside to the app, but as a temp fix it is nice at least to have the option. After an alert since the source has been overridden you must disable the A2DP blocker and then re-enable it to allow your XM, FM radio play again.

EDIT #2 : I am not sure if this can be used on a Ipod since the ipod cannot use Hands Free Profile as it is not a phone, maybe someone can test it out.

Yeah, I'm impatient haha. At least for the time being it is a temp fix.

Here is a quick video I made to show how to use it, its tuned to am radio but it will work for any other source just the same.

Awesome - thanks so much for this post. Tested this just now and this resolves my issue with bluetooth and warnings that I have had since installing 6 months ago. I can only hope that this feature is added into the alp connect software at a later date.

Also once alarm has been triggered you do not have disable and then re enable. Just wait about 10 to 15 seconds and whatever you were listening to comes back on by itself :-)

Good to know! I just assumed you had to reset it, thanks!

Is the 10-15 seconds adjustable to something closer to 5 seconds or less?

Don't think so, as there are no options for it in the A2DP Blocker app

Edit: Also, doesn't reset in my truck. Still have to reset mine via the app.

If you use Waze and get a waze alert it automatically switches to Bluetooth and when the alert stops it automatically switches you back? I dont get any Waze alerts in my my wife's vehicle over Bluetooth and have not tried it yet with my car.

Yea I wish the ALPConnect worked like that! I wonder if your wife's vehicle BT supports Hands free profile. That being said, most new BT units support both HFP - Hands Free Profile and A2DP - Advanced Audio Distribution Profile. If it only supports A2DP I could see that being the reason you don't get alerts when listening to another audio source.

Also, have you tried enabling this option on your iphone?

The timing to switch back to music etc is not controllable. But I guess it is around 10 seconds. Am using iPhone 5s with the latest version of the app if that makes any difference ?

I am as well, I believe that option is controlled by your vehicles head unit.

Spoke with AL and they will try to include this option in the next ALP Connect release slated for the next 4-6 weeks.

Beta Testing new version 1.4 of ALP Connect. They have added an HFP audio out in the next release.
