Hi Everyone,

I just had my ALP installed on tuesday and the system has been getting false alerts. I would be driving normally and out of no where it would receive a laser encounter and I'm positive that there weren't any actual threats. This happens multiple times over the course of a trip.
From my observations, the occurrences are random and there isn't a specific something that would set it off. So sometimes it happens when I'm driving, but it had also occurred within a shot time after starting my car and just sitting in a parking lot.
I also noticed that the period of time between the occurrences are completely random, sometimes it would throw the alert after a few minutes of being normal with blue flashing led, other times it would occur over and over with it giving the alert right after it sets back to defense(blue) mode from parking(green) mode after the last encounter.
I noticed that after the alert, the led sometimes cycles between flashing green and solid green, other times it will stay on solid green for a rather long time (past the 1 min reset mark) with a single flash every 15-30 second, is this normal or does this mean something specific?

This is a video i took yesterday when i was out driving

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NSbp_SX6tI&feature=youtu.be
0:00 - 1:41 green led flashing and solid (between 5 - 20 seconds), from last encounter before i started recording the video
1:42 - 2:08 reset to defense mode (blue led)
2:09 - 2:13 false laser encounter
2:14 - 3:14 normal flashing green led
3:15 - 4:46 reset to defense mode (blue led)
4:47 - 4:50 false laser encounter
4:51 - 5:08 green led flash and on for around 3 second
5:08 - 5:46 normal flashing green led
5:47 - end Long solid green led with a single flash at 6:04 and 6:25

I'm really not sure why this is happening so please let me know if anyone can help or has any ideas.

Thanks

Hmm something strange.

Alerts are coming from the rear - not familiar with that specific alert tone (they are different for different guns), but it's not a Poliscan false alert, as I'm very used to the sound of the real thing :)

You can also try dumping your statistics file, and see what the gun (false or otherwise) was ;

Does your car have "Lane avoidance system" or perhaps a car behind you did. Some are "Laser" based systems (& some are K-band radar). After an alert(Rear-"Yellow" in your case) it is normal for Priority to take a 60sec. delay before returning to Defense Mode(Blue) condition.

X2, What vehicle do you have?

I see a green laser pointer being used? What is that?

I see a green laser pointer being used? What is that?A reflection of the green LED in the camera lens.

How many heads are you running? Any in the rear? Maybe try disconnecting one head at a time (telling the ALP to learn the head locations each time) to see if it's a particular head causing the issue.

Looks like a reflection from the blinking light. I believe he has Laser Avoidance systems in his vehicle and if so the installer should have informed him prior to taking him money and installing any Laser Defense. We will need the make, model and year to look into it for you but I would bet your vehicle has a front and rear laser system.

If the username "theaudir8fan" is any indication of the vehicle, Audis don't have any laser based systems that I'm aware of, just radar based. But if it's a different vehicle, some that cause laser falses include Infiniti's cruise control, as well as Volvo and some newer Mazdas have a laser based smart city brake system. But then the R8 being the exotic model, perhaps it does have some laser based features.

That's the "laser scanner" alert (see at 1:28)

I get those occasionally when I'm driving. Poliscan falls under that sound category, because I pulled the stats file after getting an alert like that and it showed a Poliscan hit (but since I know Poliscan is not used in my area, I know it was a false). The vast majority of the time, I see those alerts come from the rear.

For it to keep happening either he has a bad rear sensor or he has laser guidance systems. We can keep guessing but unless the member comes back and confirms what vehicle he is using there is not much else we can do.

Thanks to everyone for the reply and pitching in ideas, really appreciate the help from a great community.

Been a little busy today so sorry for the delayed reply, this is the ALP quad set up with 2 front and 2 rear on a 2013 BMW X5M.

I'm pretty sure my car doesn't have laser guidance system. The car doesn't have any blind spot monitoring or active cruise control either.

You probably have an issue with one of the rear heads if you have no guidance systems. Disconnect one head at a time until the problem stops.

Try disconnecting one head at a time and see if it makes a difference. If disconnecting a certain head makes the falses stop, the issue is with that head or cable.

BRD beat me to it. :)

Ok i will give that a try over the next few days so i can take more time for each observation, thanks

As one mentioned earlier, i will take the car out later today to see if it occurs again, if so i will get the file dumped to a usb stick and hopefully get some info there

Another question, each time i unplug a sensor, do i need to do a reset?

Put the Settings in LID = Unlimited so that when the alert goes off it will not auto kill it and then start to disconnect the heads one at a time until the alerts stop. Give it a few moments after you disconnect each head.

thanks for everyone's input, i pulled all the panels off and isolated it down to one specific sensor, the passenger side rear, seems like that's the one that's setting off the alerts

Contact your dealer in the morning and get it swapped out and you should be good to go.

Starting your own business is a great adventure , this guy's lack of professionalism gives you a real opportunity.

Perhaps the largest problem would be to get the franchise from AL , it seems they protect by territory...

I wonder if you contact AL directly and complaint , could be AL will pressure to offer better customer service ,
as such situation affects their brand name reputation.

I've had the same thought but I doubt AL will grant sales distributorship.

I've spoken to him, he doesn't actually carry stock, he has it shipped from Tim to him then onto his customers, he's just a dealer for Tim, he doesn't deal directly with AL.

I don't want to deal with DGC anymore directly because of her, Tim is great but as BA said she is loosing him a hod oif business, one of my work colleagues tried to buy off DGC but was completely turned off buying anything by her.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm in Canada, so i bought these from KMPH, Alex@KMPH was really helpful through out the process of issues for the past few days, i emailed and called him many times and he replied even after business hours just to help me in addressing the issues. Great vendor, will deal with them again :)

Just want to give an update for anyone who's interested, I got a replacement head from KMPH and I swapped it out, so far everything seems good for the past two days of driving and the false alerts have stopped. However i haven't had the chance of putting the setup to a real test as of yet, if anyone here is in Calgary AB Canada and wouldn't mind meeting up for testing, i would really appreciate it and buy you beer :)
