View Full Version : VERY IMPORTANT - Preparation for 4/8 ALP Firmware

There might need to be some preparation for the next firmware update. This next update is extremely complicated because of the nature of these VPS guns. If you have not registered your system even if you purchased it in September you really need to register your purchase:
Here is the Registration Link: http://www.alpriority.com/contact/#registration
You need to Register your CPU & Sensor Serial Numbers - The Serial Numbers are on the boxes and if you lost or threw the boxes out the serial numbers are on the bottom of CPU and for the sensors the serial number is on the cord next to the din connector. If you cant get to them you can contact me if you purchased through us and we will have a record of them.

Done, thanks for the reminder. Should there be any confirmation that the registration is complete (such as an email)?

The page should give you a screen notification but you will not receive an email notification.

You can also learn your SN by doing "Save to USB" or ServiceCode 2-2-2, and then opening your file on the alpupdate.com.

Uh-oh. I installed my ALP and I didn't even realize that the sensors have SNs. I'm not sure I can even see them. I did register my main unit's SN though, but I just entered "1" in the "triple" box because I didn't read the page carefully, and thought it was just asking HOW MANY sensors I had.

I think the more difficult task is gathering the serial number of the sensors which is not recorded in the setup file and since the serial numbers are on the cables by the Din connections they might not be reachable in many installs.

will new units sold after 4/8 come with the updates already installed?

No,AL Priority is sold as a Parking Device full time.If the owner choses to "upgrade" it he has that option available to alter its performance.

Can't wait to test this update. Have a special friend to help 😜
Can we put the 2 downloaded files at the same time on the Usb key , then proceed to the control box .
Or is it advised to do them separately , one at a time , U2793XXX.bin first ,
then clean the usb key , insert the UCSET.bin on the key and proceed ?
Thanks.

You can put all 3 files CPU Firmware, Control Module Firmware & Setup File all on the same USB drive. CPU Firmware will go first and once restarted turn off with the power button and turn on and it will move to the next file.
Thanks Tom , simple and concise ...:positive:

This next update is extremely complicated because of the nature of these VPS guns.
Let's say for example, I register my system, then a week later I have more heads arrive. Would I need to register them, then firmware update again. As this is the situation that I'll be in

SO a simple restart is needed to suck each file off the USB stick--Cause I will have all 3 on one. Then I will have a dedicated USB with only the parking sensor set up "Just in case" :)

I do the same. I don't see a need for the privacy mode that requires a key on the USB stick in order to start up, since if pulled over, I'd just put the parking sensor USB stick in there and do a quick reprogram.
EDIT: I wish there were some way to lock out the privacy mode, unless a special key combination is entered. A (small) worry of mine is that someone who's rummaging through my car might be able to put my ALP into privacy mode and remove the USB stick, thereby making my ALP useless (for example, what if the car gets towed and the cops want to be evil?).

Can I confirm that at this stage, to perform all firmware upgrades, those with the Bluetooth module have to remove the module and insert the controller?
This being the case I assume, when will AL change this?
I don't want to nor do I suspect others, have to pull apart parts of my dash every time there is an upgrade. Surely this can be worked into the App.
Thanks

Only the initial update needs the Control Module since the standard firmware shipped on the units does not recognize the Bluetooth Module. After you update the firmware for the first time all subsequent updates can be updated with the Bluetooth module connected and its actually a much better experience since it will show you the status of the update as its installing on the screen.

As this is the situation that I'll be inI was an early adopter & registered back in Sept. Then recently I decided to add 2 more Sensors in the Rear.I now have a Quint install. When I went to Register the 2 new ones I thought my CPU serial # or my name/email address would bring up my previous Registration...but it DID NOT !
I didn't have to tear my sys. apart b/c I wrote down all Serial #'s in my AL manual...so I just re-Registered everything again.

So what does registration actually do other than letting us know when a new firmware update is available?

Its lets AntiLaser know what version software you are running on your ALP and also what hardware you have attached to it. It will also allow you to download future firmware which for security reasons is coded to individual registered units.

This reminds me of the old DTV / Dish cards with individual code written by programmers. Different kind of cat and mouse game here though. Concept seems the same though.

I still have all the HU and H card loaders somewhere. When a new bin would come out I would have to re program like 50 cards.

Don't you miss those days? I used to have an unlooper. One stop unlooping and programming in one shot.

Sent you a PM. Please lets stay on topic. In the Past AL Products were cloned and they put too much into the AL Priority for it to happen again. These things are locked down very well and if a unit was to ever get cloned they could easily cut off all updates to those units.
