have used Uniden way, way back before it was stolen along with the car, have currently a Pro78XRi and prior to that Whistler XTR's and a Pro 78 SE. they do the job fine(no pun) for what I need at the moment.

its something that should only be used in the west due to RDD's east of the border

While those do offer some protection that is better than none at all,if you can afford to spend a little more money you'll find much better Models in the higher end of the RD's available nowadays.

Yes Whistler User, welcome to our forum. Glad you joined. Like RedRocket said those do offer some protection and they are better than not having any protection at all. However I recommend looking in the future to some upgraded models if you are really serious about it. However not knocking the Whistler models. I have heard great things about these for the price.
