    Strange (false) alert

Hi! I keep getting this (lidar?) alert and it is reproduceable when passing the same spot again and again. It also triggers 70% of the cases when driving in the other direction what is strange in my understanding of how lidar works.

ALPs statistics tell me that it is recognized as "Traffic Observer" and my friend google shows me some info on that device:

But I cannot see anything like this or any other suspicous device... just normal CCD Cameras on the tunnels entry.

Anyone any idea what could trigger this alert?

Laser while directional can be picked up in the opposite direction by reflections off of objects and cars in the other lanes and the ALP is extremely sensitive and it can sniff out these reflections. This is not a false alert and there is some sort of speed camera somewhere there. Getting false alerts on the ALP is extremely rare.

Oh - thanks, good to know! But I am still curious as I never got a speeding ticket on that spot
Is there any easy way to detect the source of that 905nm radiation like e.g. making IR visible with a camera?

If you have an IR Camera you should be able to find it but there is definitely something there. I do see a camera on the right before you enter the tunnel and also some cameras inside the tunnel but these devices are not used in the US so I cant be sure. Even if not aiming at you there will be reflections that your front sensors will pick up.

Almost looks like it could be something similar to Camea Section control detection which was on the ALG9 ?

    http://www.antilaser.info/?p=86

At this time only the Czech Camea Section Control system is implemented in the AntiLaser but it will soon be followed with other camera systems as well.

Yes this camera in front of the tunnel is pretty suspicious and I stopped there for further examination. But cams like that one and those inside the tunnels are standard here - they are there for security reasons (car breakdown, crashes, avalanches, ...) only. Addionally, Section control is not legal here at the moment
The only "non-standard" thing here is the garage right to the tunnel which belongs to the firefighters... AND there is a speed-display on the left side for the traffic running the other direction - but this one is a k-band and informational only without flash/camera.
