    Need LED extension cable for ALP install recommendations?

    Installing ALP quad system on my motorcycle. CPU must be placeed under the rear passenger seat. Would like to place the LED in the instrument cluster. LED won't reach. Any recommendations on how to extend the LED cable would be appreciated. Also, this is a Gen 1 CPU, if I program the settings to have the LED remain dim, at say level 3, will the LED stay illuminated blue but, at the dim level after the start up sequence?

    External LED can not be dimmed on first generation CPU's. If you need to extend it you can try to find a coupler and a short additional cable.

    The cable that is used for the LED appears to be RJ22 also know as RJ9 or, RJ10. There is actually no official designation for it, hence it goes buy a couple of different designations depending on the vendor. The standard ALP LED cable is approximately 58" long. Add 36" for the extension plus 1" for the coupler. That brings the combined length to 95" or, 7.97 ft. My two questions that maybe you could answer Tom: 1) Am I correct, that the ALP LED uses RJ22 straight through, pin1 to pin 1 cable and, 2) will there be enough voltage to overcome the additional resistance associated with the longer cable length?     I really have no idea what cable is used on the external LED. Ask Eddie from Detailing Dynamics as he extends them all the time.

    Spoke to Eddie, it is in fact RJ22 and it is straight through, pin 1 to pin1. The length should be ok. One other note, if you're not going to cut and crimp but, use a female to female connector, the connector should also be, "straight through." Hope this info helps anyone else that might need to extend their ALP LED.

    Curious to know how one identifies (and shops for) the proper cable with no pin switching.
    Ditto regarding the female to female coupler as most RJ22 cables seem to be male at both ends
    A link to the parts would be great

    I extend mine by cutting the original cable at any lenght , then joint\solder any 2 wires cables at both end. Finalise the joints with shrink tube.

    I used telephone cables ...any cables will do , even super thin wires.

    In your case , a motorcycle , i would prefer the cutting\soldering than using connectors due to long term corrosion problems , unless you seal well the connectors.

    Here are the links to what I ordered. I have not yet received these items so I can't yet say they will work for sure, but they should. When you order the RJ22 cables make sure you select "Data, pin 1 to pin 1," not Voice. You can also select the length which luckily can be had as little as 3ft.
