Double-Sided Tape: Which Type/Brand is Best for Long-Term Holding Power?

I use the 3M VHB its black not the regular 3M grey kind. I cleaned my surface with alcohol wipes first, then with the VHB tape already applied to the brackets I use a heat gun to heat the tape up until it kinda has a shine to it and slap it on there. Let it sit for about 2 hours in the shade, then I snapped my heads into place. This is the way my local ALP installer did it. But the 100+ degree weather and small mounting surface made them fall of earlier this summer. So instead of driving a hour back to have them reinstalled I just purchased the tape they used and DIY.
