2015 RALETC Lidar Sensitivity Testing Results featuring the Stinger VIP

    Name: 2015 Sensitivity Test Snippet.jpg
Views: 635

The results were rather surprising, but I'm sure they will be questioned. I invite everyone to test them and see the results with your own eyes or join us at the next RALETC meet and I'll be happy to show it to you first hand. In addition, we also began testing the I/O results on the radar side of the VIP and once again another big surprise! more on that later...

Nice infos ...terrible numbers ..or excellent depending what one uses !

Should we deduct that the emitting angle is similar to the recieving ? , not that it would fix anything , just a curiosity question to an expert .

Since the Stinger heads are square, do they have a specific installation orientation?

I think I once read that the receive heads are typically toed out for the AU market? If this is the case and they are required to be specifically oriented, is it possible that they have a larger coverage area toward the center while toed out?
Maybe they'll have to come up with entirely new heads for the U.S. market.

These are the new heads for the US market. They are mounted exactly per instructions and they require quite a bit of work to get them perfectly in alignment. If you take a look at the receive heads up close you can see the problem. It's a design issue unfortunately. What I don't know is whether or not it was intentional. Regardless count on it taking more heads to get good performance. @Tman, the transmit heads are a completely different story. These are much more difficult to measure because the Stinger requires a GPS signal with speed above 18 mph before the "LaserShield" can be engaged. (ie transmit heads). I was able to get it to work on my bench inside my house when the GPS signal was not acquired, but now that it's mounted on the car it's going to be a challenge. Regardless we do plan to measure the angle of dispersion much like we did on previous heads from other jammers. it just maybe sometime before that happens.

More heads on top of the price as you have it equipped pretty much confirms this as competition for K40. Even if they get the lidar defense on par with AL, it'll never be mainstream at that price point. I could see the radar portion making in roads into the enthusiast community though, if it can perform better on Ka than current offerings from Escort & Valentine.

Thanks for putting in the hours and energy to test this stuff out for us.

We still have many tests still to perform even on radar and while it has performed well so far there are some surprises coming soon. I wouldn't count valentine or escort out just yet.

Is it true that some K filtering for bsm is accomplished by locking out the offending frequency?

That's what I've heard but I haven't proven it yet. Also I believe it is a combination of frequency and GPS., but I believe some are locked by frequency alone sort of like out of the box filtering on a V1. Still need to confirm so at this point it's all speculative. As soon as we can determine what is happening we will publish the results. I suspect some of your questions will be answered in our next round of advanced tests.

To soon to report actual operational detail or videos yet,but we're very curious about this, too. The 18mph "Laser Shield" threshold prevents a quick easy test to reveal the Stinger specifics to the community.
