    need help al priority

    Hi

    I am in Kentucky and neededto find someone in my area willing to help me install and test an AL unit. Me being able to install this myself is dependent upon me actually ordering the al unit because I am not able to afford purchasing the unit and paying high price for installation as well. If anyone thinks they can help please let me know.

    This may be a situation where I can be talked through much if not all of this myself. My problem now is getting access around my grill area because of black casing. I also not sure where to bring wires in at the cabin. Whomever is willing to help I mig by be able to do pictures and send to you.

    Couple of things that would be helpful so we can help you.

    *What model car
    *What type of experience do you have with electronics?
    *What tools do you have?
    *Pictures of interior upper dash, lower dash, drivers side foot well, passenger side foot well, fusebox access and engine area would be a good start.

    Hi Johnboy I appreciate your reply very much. After I get a chance to take pictures (hopefully tonight) I will post them up for you

    To answer a couple of your other questions I have some experience but not huge amounts. I am pretty savvy with things like this. Like with my windsheild mount I have removed my panels and ran the rj11 cable. I also have some experience with electrical wiring as I wired a whole house lighting system around my house. I really think with some help I might be able to pull this off. I got to know for sure tho before I purchase otherwise I might get myself into trouble because I can barely afford the unit itself and not the install too unfortunately.

    As for model the vehicle is a 2013 Ford Escape.

    As far as tools I have quite a few tools. I have the basic thing like pliers and I also have wire cutters etc. I am a piano technician so I have things to do this work such as restringing etc. I also have access to drill electric screw driver etc.

    Anything else I might need?

    Hopefully I can get the pics posted tonight.

    Again I really do thank you for your help.

    See if you can find something that looks like this http://www.qsl.net/k5dh/images/m_firewall_passthru.jpg
    on your passenger side.

    This would allow you to pass the sensor wires from cabin into engine area. Everything else takes place inside the cabin.

    Is the fuse box in the passenger floor well? Is it easy to gain access to? Take another photo of passenger floor well, but not as close up. If you have easy access to fuse box there, and you can open it, take picture of that as well.

    Fuse box area using a "fuse tap" (click here to view) is the safe and typically easy way to get power and find a grounding spot.

    Unless you want to install the LED light, the rest is really pretty simple.

    Yes I believe I will be able to access the fuse box fine. I did not see the grommets that you sent a picture of anywhere in under there but I can maybe look again. The part I am worried about to is getting wires into the grill. There is a black wall case that is all around preventing access to the font area where I need to place my sensors. It appears like to me a lot would have to be disassembled to gain access there.

    See if you can find the cable for the hood release and follow it. It will typically go through a grommet in the firewall. If that fails and you're will to make your own, get a unabit from your local hardware store. Pre-drill first with any smaller bit and then follow up with the unabit to get it to the size you need. You can purchase rubber grommets at Autozone or O'reilly. Just check both sides of the firewall for anything in the way. It's really easy. I have so much crap on my cars I have to do this on nearly everyone of them.

    X2 the first time I was getting ready to install something in my car I was really nervous about drilling the firewall but it really isn't a big deal. My one friend is freakin captain drill a hole. He doesn't even attempt to find an existing route he just drills.
